Dr Ravi Subramaniam is a senior orthopaedic surgeon and director of Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital & Research Institute, Chennai. With more than four decades of experience, his principal areas of expertise include arthroscopy, sports-injury management, ligament reconstruction, and minimally invasive orthopaedic surgery.
A graduate of Madras Medical College, Dr Ravi completed his DNB in Orthopaedics and subsequently undertook advanced training at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, UK. He also received international training through the AO Fellowship in Salzburg, Austria.
Dr. Ravi has played an important role in developing minimally invasive orthopaedic services at Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital. His approach focuses on accurate diagnosis, appropriate treatment selection, tissue-preserving surgery, and structured rehabilitation, helping patients return safely to movement, work, and sport.
His arthroscopy practice extends beyond a single joint or injury and includes the management of knee, shoulder, and other appropriate joint conditions; ACL and other ligament injuries; meniscus and cartilage injuries; sports-related joint problems; recurrent shoulder instability; and selected conditions requiring keyhole surgery.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Ravi is involved in training orthopaedic surgeons and fellows, developing clinical protocols, and strengthening sports medicine and arthroscopy services at the hospital.
His treatment philosophy is to understand each patient’s movement needs, preserve the joint wherever possible, and guide recovery from diagnosis through rehabilitation.
