The Soundarapandian Arthroscopy Fellowship Program

The Arthroscopy Fellowship Program at Soundarapandian Bone and Joint Hospital offers specialised training in minimally invasive orthopaedic procedures. This one-year program is designed to equip fellows with in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in arthroscopic techniques for diagnosing and treating joint-related injuries, focusing on both upper and lower extremities. This Fellowship program is affiliated with the MGR University accreditation program.

Program Highlights

Extensive Arthroscopic Exposure

Fellows will gain experience in arthroscopic procedures for the shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, and ankle. Procedures include diagnostic arthroscopy, ligament reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, and management of meniscal injuries.

Advanced Surgical Techniques

Dr.Ravi Subramaniam is a leader in the world of Arthroscopy. He uses the innovative Australian triple bundle technique which restores the joint to its original form. Training covers this state-of-the-art techniques in sports medicine and joint preservation, including other minimally invasive approaches to ACL and PCL reconstructions, meniscectomy, cartilage repair, and labral repairs.

Hands-On Training

Fellows will actively participate in surgeries under the supervision of senior arthroscopy specialists. The program emphasises proficiency in using arthroscopic equipment and tools to perform precise, minimally invasive procedures.

Outpatient and Inpatient Care

Fellows will manage pre- and post-operative care, follow-up consultations, and rehabilitation protocols for patients undergoing arthroscopic procedures.

Academic Participation

The fellowship includes regular case discussions, presentations, and participation in arthroscopy-specific conferences and meetings. Fellows will also have opportunities to contribute to ongoing research in sports medicine and joint preservation.

  • Master arthroscopic techniques for diagnosing and treating joint conditions.
  • Develop expertise in managing sports injuries, ligament tears, and cartilage damage
  • Understand the role of arthroscopy in joint preservation and rehabilitation.
  • Enhance skills in post-operative care and patient rehabilitation following arthroscopic surgery.

Number of Fellowship Seats:

  • 2 positions available annually

Selection Process

Fellows are chosen based on personal interviews with senior consultants, including Dr. Sivamurugan and Dr. Ravi Subramaniam. Interviews take place in June, with the fellowship running from September 1st to August 31st of the following year.
