From Healing to Thriving Your Recovery Begins Here

The Physiotherapy department at SBJH is dedicated to the treatment and rehabilitation of all musculoskeletal disorders.

Back on Track: The Journey to Spine Wellness

SBJH offers comprehensive treatment for back and neck disorders. Problems of the spine and surrounding structures are assessed, and treatment is initiated to restore optimal function. It is designed to make patients pain-free and regain the ability to perform daily activities.

Problems such as herniated discs (including sciatica), postural spinal pain, spinal stenosis, etc., are effectively assessed and treated at SBJH to prevent progression of disease and improve the quality of life of patients.

Some of the spinal rehabilitation treatments employed at SBJH are Functional Training with posture correction, Ultrasound therapy, Electrical Stimulation and Traction.

Patients learn to take better care of their spines and switch to a home-based treatment and exercise program prescribed by the therapist.

Post-operative Physiotherapy Management

Physiotherapy is an essential part of post-surgical rehab. The physiotherapy experts at SBJH create specially designed customised exercise regimens using scientific equipment to help patients regain joint mobility, enhance their physical capabilities and lead normal lives following surgery.

The Physiotherapy department also treats patients of all ages with pain, stiffness of joints, postural issues, malalignment of the body and other chronic musculoskeletal problems effectively. Each patient is assessed comprehensively, and a fitness plan is tailor-made to their requirements.

Good/ideal posture is essential not only to look elegant, but also to prevent posture-related pain, injuries and fatigue.

Our physical therapists focus on muscle imbalance and alignment, which will improve your overall posture and balance.

Our Physiotherapy team will guide the patient right from the day of surgery to returning to high-physical-demand activities like sports and trekking through advanced strengthening and sports-specific training.

The SBJH Physiotherapy department has an excellent track record in treating both the elite and recreational sports person, with a majority of our patients seeing results within a short span of time.

SBJH introduced the Humac Norm Cybex Isokinetic machine for the first time in Tamil Nadu, and it is very useful in measuring the strength of muscles. This helps to see if the optimal function of the joint has been achieved, especially in the post-operative situation. It also functions like a continuous passive movement machine and is very useful in restoring the range of movement of a joint.

Additionally, there is a Foot and Ankle division that focuses on conditions like heel pain, knee pain and lower back pain caused by poor foot biomechanics. The SBJH physiotherapy department houses a Barefoot Training Specialist who uses evidence-based barefoot training to restore function, build strength and improve overall movement and alignment in people. Customised insoles are provided, following a computerised foot scan that realigns the feet & ankles, and enables a more even weight distribution, taking pressure off sore spots and also providing shock absorption.

ECSWT is a non-invasive treatment that stimulates the body’s natural healing process.

The use of shock waves and radial pressure waves generated outside the patient’s body and delivered to the affected region to trigger the body’s mechanisms to initiate natural healing, called extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT).

It can relieve pain and promote healing of injured tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues.

ESWT devices and briefly covers results of clinical applications, such as pain relief therapy and ESWT for patients suffering from plantar fasciitis, calcaneal spur, Achilles tendinopathy, supraspinatus calcific tendinitis of the shoulder, tennis elbow, Golfer’s elbow, patellar tendinopathy, spasticity, chronic pelvic pain syndrome and so on.

Laser therapy is a modern medical treatment that uses a beam of light of a specific wavelength to stimulate tissue healing and treat pain and inflammation in a non-invasive manner, where the light energy penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the tissues, triggering biological responses that promote healing.

Dry needling is a treatment technique that uses thin needles to release muscle trigger knots to help relieve pain and improve range of motion.

When dry needling is applied to an affected muscle or trigger point, it can decrease muscle tightness, increase blood flow and reduce pain.

Kinesiology tape is an elastic, stretchy tape usually made with a blend of cotton and nylon. It is often used to help facilitate muscle function, stabilise joints, or keep muscles from contracting improperly. It can also be used to help decrease pain, swelling, and muscle spasms.
